Welcome to Fallbrook
Welcome to Fallbrook “the friendly village”, also known as the avocado capital of the world and host of the famous annual Avocado Festival!! Fallbrook has an inland, rural vibe. Settled in the late 1800s, Fallbrook is home to one of the county’s oldest schoolhouses, The Reche Schoolhouse, and many of its downtown buildings are original. Olives flourished here in the 1920s, and today the area is replete with oak, avocado, and citrus trees. Head down Main Street in Fallbrook, and you’ll see an assortment of boutique shops and salons with old-fashioned false fronts and awnings that you can peruse. Dine among art-for-sale at Café des Artistes, find your favorite pick-me-up at The Hearth Coffee Shop, or grab a bite to eat at many locally owned, long-lived eateries like Estrella’s or Trupiano’s. Fallbrook has a small-town vibe while also having all the necessities and amenities right in town, so it’s easy to get to a bigger city, but why would you want to? There is no other place in Southern California quite like Fallbrook!
Residents choose this far north end of San Diego County both to scoop up a newly built home at a great price point or to spread out on equestrian properties and enjoy the vintage charm of its historic Main Street. “People who move to Fallbrook are looking for a different sort of lifestyle that’s removed from busy suburbia. Here, you can ride your horses, and raise chickens, and goats; you won’t find properties where you can do that on the coast.” While Fallbrook is known more for its proximity to wilderness than beaches, Fallbrook is home to the nearly 50-acre Los Jilgueros Preserve with several miles of forested walking trails, as well as the Santa Margarita County Preserve Trail where locals go for longer hikes. To picnic at the pavilion or relax at the playground, families head to Live Oak Park, the site of a former Luiseño village filled with stunning, massive oaks.
In Fallbrook, you’ll find a mix of nature preserves, farmland, large estates, new construction, and quaint older homes that all embrace Fallbrook’s countryside character. Easy access to Camp Pendleton is offered at the Fallbrook NWS Gate making it a desirable community for military families. Feel the love of the countryside as you drive the winding, tree-lined roads past horses, llamas, chickens, and pigs, and see if you can spot the beautiful peacocks perched in the olive trees.
Fallbrook is home to the Fallbrook Union Elementary District and the Fallbrook Union High School District. The new Palomar College Fallbrook Education Center is also part of the education community and is the furthest north college campus in San Diego County! Additional education and arts attractions in Fallbrook can be found at the Fallbrook Art Center, where you can explore revolving art collections and relax at outdoor bistro tables covered in iconic art images. You can also shop one-of-a-kind originals in the center’s gift shop. Movie buffs catch award-winning films in Fallbrook at the retro Mission Theater, a “heart-of-downtown” hot spot since 1948. Or stop by the Fallbrook branch of the San Diego County Library for storytime and a fresh, new book.
Golfers love that Fallbrook is home to the spectacular public Golf Club of California and Pala Mesa Resort. Both courses are gorgeous places to play near meandering creeks and a serene lake or stop for dinner and drinks at the on-site restaurants, but they are also sought-after wedding venues, much like the world-renowned Grand Tradition Estate and Gardens.
