Rancho Peñasquitos

Welcome to Rancho Peñasquitos

Rancho Peñasquitos, often affectionately called “PQ” by locals, is a welcoming suburban
community in northwestern San Diego known for its rolling hills, scenic canyons, and strong
sense of neighborhood pride. Bordered by Carmel Mountain Ranch, Torrey Highlands, and Black
Mountain Ranch, it offers residents a comfortable blend of nature, family-friendly living, and
convenient freeway access via SR-56 and I-15.
The community takes its name from the first Mexican land grant in the county, Rancho Santa
María de Los Peñasquitos, and today it balances historic roots with modern suburban growth.
Residents enjoy nearby open space, excellent schools in the highly acclaimed Poway Unified
School District (PUSD), and a diverse population that makes PQ one of San Diego’s most
desirable places to live.
Rancho Peñasquitos embraces the best of San Diego’s outdoor lifestyle. The centerpiece is Black
Mountain Open Space Park, offering miles of hiking and biking trails with panoramic views
from the 1,554-foot summit.
